Bjarne Stroustup "Design and Evolution of C++" and others by him, the inventor of C++
What is the best book for learning c++?
I recommend Accelerated C++ by Koenig %26amp; Moo. It takes a different approach that gets you writing programs that work right from the start.

Note: Stroustrup may have invented the language, but having used his book for a class, I found it to be not that great a book to learn from. I see it more as a reference once you've learned the language.
Accelerated C++ makes good use of the Standard Template Library which is useful and not in Stroustrup.
