Learning Video Game Programming? (probably C++)?

I'm 15 and love video games, and I would like to learn some programming languages. I'm pretty good when it comes to computers, but I've never learned any languages.

I downloaded a program called Game Maker which lets you make games without knowing programming, but it wasn't quite what I expected.

Does anybody know of any sites that teach complete beginners for free without having to sign up for anything, or any books that could be helpful? Which language should I learn first?

Thanx

Learning Video Game Programming? (probably C++)?
If you really want to program games, try C#, browse the Microsoft website a little, here are a few links to start you off:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/xna/def...

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vcsharp...

And if you want a C++ source code try one of a real and once popular game: Quake III: Arena

go here: http://www.idsoftware.com/ and click the link that says:

"Quake III Arena Source Code (Under GPL)"

The Source Code mentioned above powered Call of Duty 1 %26amp; 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein %26amp; Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Quake III: Arena, and more.

Hope this was helpful!
Reply:Video Game Programing has turned into something of a commodity . You will be expected to give up your life for a fairly average salary because if you dont someone else will be there to take your place, you will be abused by your employer. Your only hope is to become some sort of guru in one of the fields that no-one is smart enough to take on - A.I., graphics, physics, bu this takes years and a huge brain.

While you grow a huge Mekon Brane why don't you try Video Game Tycoon ?

You can buy it on Amazon.com for only $30

Reply:Well starting game programming at 15 would be kinda tough. But i would reccomend getting in with a game company by sighning up to be a game tester (look online). But game programming is pretty hard unless someone has already made the language easier to learn for you. I would suggest trying something like the free mmorpg maker at http://www.touchofdeathproductions.com and learn that until your older. Game programming requires alot of things, and games like the ones you see on the Xbox360 don't just come out of thin air. It takes a big team to make games like Gears of War. Or small ones like Viva Piniata. But if you really like it then go for it. Who know mabye you'll be the next executive working at Square Enix. Also if you want to make small computer games and such. Start off with web programming (google), then make your way up to visual basic, and c, then c++, then c#. once you have mastered those you need to know how to make the images for your game 2d/3d you'll need to google for that too. Hope i gave you some insight and if you need more info then just email me at koolmaster1200@yahoo.com
